Future Cambodia Fund supports a range of grassroots development projects in Cambodia, with a primary focus on working with communities displaced as a result of forced eviction:
Andong Relocation Site
Future Cambodia Fund is working at Andong ‘relocation’ site, a community of between 5,000 – 8,000 individuals who were violently evicted from their central Phnom Penh homes and forcibly ‘relocated’ to a site 22km away. Residents have little or no access to fresh water, adequate food, medical care, employment, or education, and many people are seriously ill from preventable and treatable diseases.
Future Cambodia Fund runs a number of projects out of The Happy Garden Centre in Andong, named by the children we work with. The projects we deliver are designed to support and empower residents to rebuild their lives following eviction and create a positive future.
Education Project
Access to formal education is severely limited for children in Andong, with local school unable to cope with the influx of up to 3000 school aged children. This has resulted in thousands of children missing out on the opportunity to go to school, with a majority of children not attending any formal schooling for more than three years.
Future Cambodia Fund’s Education Project aims to support children and young people in Andong to access both formal and informal education. Through our ‘Back to School’ program, Future Cambodia Fund supports children to return to, or remain in the public school system when otherwise they would miss out.
The Education Project also provides children and young people from Andong with access to remedial education, sports and recreational, play therapy, arts/crafts, music, dance, drama, counselling, medical and dental care.
Andong Water, Sanitation and Health Program
Future Cambodia Fund also runs a community-based water, sanitation & health program at Andong ‘relocation’ site. The project works with women in the community and aims to provide more families with access to potable water, while providing education on health, hygiene and safe water collection, filtration and storage.
Emergency Assistance Program
Future Cambodia Fund provides ongoing grants for emergency situations, including emergency accommodation, counselling, and support for child victims of abuse and violence.
